State public health departments?

There is no ultimate governmental public health position and employer. The opinions and preferences of aspiring public health professionals vary according to many factors:

• Your specific public health intellectual and domain interests;
• How closely you hope to interact with and work within the communities you serve;
• How many hours you prefer to spend during your 40-ish-hour work week on deep, analytical work vs. program implementation and operations vs. community outreach and other stakeholder engagement activities, etc.;
• The amount of bureaucracy you’re able to tolerate and still smile at the end of the day; and
• MANY OTHER FACTORS. </aside>
